Stela Barreto Curriculum

Born in 1952 at Portimão, where she studied at the high school being a self-made painter since she was very young. She also studied at Lisbon Sciences College and later on she finished the course of Tissues Arts at the Decorative Arts School Ant6nio Arroio. She was a member of SNBA (National Society of Fine Arts), of ANAP (National Association of Plastic Arts) and of AIAPS (Iberian Association of Plastic Artists and Similar Ones).

In 1984 she was a pupil of the French painter René Thellier, and the artist Carlos Lança was also her master, this one having had a great influence at her plastic expression. Later she had the critical support of the painter Fernando Azevedo. Presently she lives of her native town, where she works at her atelier. There are works of her all over the country and abroad.



She exhibits regularly at galleries in Portugal, Germany (Bonn), Austria ( Wien), and USA ( Boston ) and many individual and collective exhibitions in Albufeira, Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Lisboa, Lagos, Loulé, Viseu, Porto, Portalegre, Portimão, Guimarães, Santarém, Setúbal, Sintra, Silves, Santo Tirso, Sesimbra, Tavira, Vila Real, Vilamoura, France (Angoulême), Spain (Barcelona) and JAPAN (Okinawa). She integrate the BAZART 2003 and 2004 and she exhibit for these two years in many capitals of Europe (Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Berlin, Strasburg, Nantes, Marseille, Amsterdam, Barcelona).

She was awarded with: Honourable Mention- Santarém Drawings Contest (1985). Honourable Mention- Autum/86 Saloon- Santarém Regional Cultural Center (1986), Honourable Mention- 3rd PortArte Portimão. Trophy for Acrylic Technique- Tavares Correia Prize- Seia (1993). Honourable Mention- commemoration of the Firemen 600 Years (1996). Tavira, 1rd Prize and Arcos de Valdevez, 2rd prize (2000). Honourable Mention in the National Society of Find Arts(2001). 1rd Prize in Lisbon – INATEL (2006), a 1rst and 3rd prize in Olhão (2007) and a 1rst prize in Spain (2007 – )

PORTUGAL


Nascida em Portimão em 1952, foi aluna durante anos da Escola de Álvaro Torrão (acordo com o curso Parramón em Portugal), tendo concluído mais tarde o Curso de Artes dos Tecidos na Escola de Artes Decorativas António Arroio em Lisboa. Foi membro durante anos da SNBA, da ANAP e da AIAPS. Foi aluna em 1984 do pintor Jean René Thellier, teve como mestre o artista Carlos Lança e ainda durante alguns anos o apoio crítico do mestre e pintor Fernando Azevedo.
Reside actualmente na sua cidade natal onde trabalha, e tem atelier. Dá aulas de Desenho Artístico, Pintura e Técnicas Criativas no ensino secundário e na sua Escola de Pintura que funciona na Casa das Artes em Portimão – INICIARTE.

Tem trabalhos em todo o país e estrangeiro adquiridos por clientes forasteiros e nacionais durante as suas exposições, por contacto directo, ou em diversos locais de exposição e venda.
Foi distinguida com 4 Menções Honrosas em certames da especialidade nos anos de 1985/ 86/ 93/ 96, um primeiro e um segundo prémio em 2000 e uma menção honrosa, em 2001, no Salão dos sócios da Sociedade Nacional das Belas Artes, um Primeiro Prémio em 2006 (Lisboa - INATEL) e um Primeiro e Terceiro Prémio em 2007 (Olhão) e um 1º Prémio em Espanha no Concurso Lucena Punto de Encuentro ().
Tem exposto regularmente em galerias em Portugal, França ( Angoulême), Alemanha (Bona ) , Áustria ( Viena ) e USA ( Boston ).
Desde 1984, em exposições regulares individuais e colectivas, vem mostrando o seu trabalho nas Galerias e espaços Culturais de Santarém, Beja, Coruche, Abrantes, Ciudad Rodrigo (Salamanca), Montijo, Seia, Porto, Batalha, Carvoeiro, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Tampere (Finlândia), Faro, Lagos, Lisboa, Portalegre, Aveiro, Viena ( Austria ), Cartaxo, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Praia da Rocha, Alvôr, Viseu, Coimbra, , Guimarães, Portimão, Sesimbra, Lagoa, Sintra, Stº Tirso, Monsaraz, Vila Real, Silves, Parede ,Viena (Austria) e ainda no encontro internacional de artistas plásticos da Unitas Humana na UNO City na mesma cidade no ano 2000, Boston ( USA ), Carvoeiro, Japão ( Okinawa , colectiva), Angoulême (França) e Barcelona (V Salão Internacional de Artistas Contemporâneos Independentes, 2001).
Fez parte durante os anos 2003 e 2004 do BAZART internacional, tendo sido a única pintora portuguesa a figurar no certame durante as exposições itinerantes nas diversas capitais europeias ( Lyon, Toulouse, Berlim, Paris, Estrasburgo, Nantes, Marselha, Amesterdão, Barcelona).
