My beautiful England.
In 2008 I discovered TRAVELODGE, a chain of hotels in the UK, which I could afford. They had great offers if you signed up to their newsletter, and suddenly I felt I could get out of London and see the rest of England (I did also go up to Scotland briefly). The other discovery which made travel so attractive was MEGABUS, which could get you from London to Liverpool by train for just one pound sterling. I felt the opportunity to travel was too good to resist and ever since then I have been seeing England - and getting to know the places I visit because I go back again and again - always with my digital camera.
Now, in 2014, I am still a very happy TRAVELODGE customer because, even though those early bargains are no longer offered, their room prices are still the best on the market, and I have always been totally satisfied with the service (double bed, en suite bathroom, toilet, tea and coffee-making facility and TV. Check out time is 12 noon - later than most hotels). I am not paid by them to say all this, but I feel it is because of Travelodge and Megabus that I have been able to see my country, which would not have been possible otherwise. Thanks guys !
So here is the beginning of my collection of photos, taken in the cities of England, as well as in some of the smaller towns. When I first started out, I used to rush to the Cathedrals and snap away, but soon realised that I was just not able to capture the splendour, beauty, and grandeur of these buildings, although I did (mostly) come away with some good photos of the colourful stained glass windows. And a few postcards bought at the Cathedral shop.
For the most part, I would leave the hotel in the morning and just walk, following my instinct - it's amazing what surprises a city can throw your way if you let it. Here, it says, look at this - isn't it worth photographing? Which is why many of my pictures are not of the well-known buildings and structures, but of the less-seen views.
I have spent many, many happy hours, out and about in England, with my camera as my constant (and motivating) companion. I hope you can see in my photos, some of my curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm, as well as the pleasure I have had in taking them.
Thanks for your visit. Do come again.
