Down on the Farm Critters and Countryside
Paula Solimene is featured in an exhibition of en plein air and studio paintings of life and animals on the artist's farm and other picturesque farms along the CT shoreline. View the beauty of the changing seasons, the flowers, the ponds, the animals and the historic buildings as they come to life in nostalgic scenes. These seemingly fairy tale farm settings are very real and working farms. The bucolic locales are a favorite for Mrs. Solimene, ideal for her to capture critters and countryside alike! Delight in these magical paintings at the artist’s reception on Sunday, Sept 7th (2-5pm) at the Ct River Artisans, 5 West Main Street. Chester, CT 06412 Open: Wed.-Sunday 12-5 PM.

Circles of Life, Mixed Media Collage
Education: Graduate of University of Maine with Minor in Art, BA in History and Art History. More recently, I have studied at the Crealde School of Art and Design, Winter Park, FL.; Lyme Academy of Art, Lyme , CT; and Lyme Art Association, Lyme, CT.
Employment: At this time, I am a full time artist. My work is in Galleries and shows along the CT shoreline as well as in private collections. In the past, my husband and I owned and operated an educational distribution business. My primary interests were catalog product selection, design layout, and management of our business website.
Passions: My oil on canvas works reveal my passions – my love of animals and their unique personalities; of nature and its beauty – trees , gardens, flowers; of architecture, particularly vintage in nature with interesting details and lines. My collage mixed media works reflect my strong sense of design and tell a story without words.
Associations: Board of Directors and elected artist member of the Madison Art Society Madison, CT ; Board of Directors Officer, Clinton Arts Project; Artist member of the Guilford Art League, Guilford, CT, the Essex Art Society, Essex, CT , Lyme Art Assoc., Lyme, Ct, and the Clinton Art Society, Clinton, CT.
Inspiration
The inspiration for my art is my intense love of animals and their unique personalities; of nature and its exquisite beauty – trees, gardens, and flowers; and of vintage architecture. As an en plein air painter, the expression of all of these is there for the capture. Each blank canvas presents a new and exhilarating challenge – as the many variables constantly change – the movement of light and changing shadows, volatile weather; hot or cold, wind or rain or mist ….the varying experiences are endless. As I face my canvas, I want to bring the mood and moment alive….. I think that my works, if nothing else, speak of the pleasure of their creation and my appreciation of the subject matter. With each new painting, I try to stretch…more complicated subjects, adding animals or people, expanding drawing challenges, exploration of color, and using larger canvas sizes.
It is an extraordinary and beautiful thing that God, in creation, uses precisely the same tools and rules as the artist; he works with the beauty of matter; the reality of things; the discoveries of the senses, all five of them; so that we, in turn, may hear the grass growing; see a face springing to life in love and laughter; feel another human hand or the velvet of a puppy's ear; taste food prepared and offered in love; smell--oh, so many things: food, sewers, each other, flowers, books, new-mown grass, dirt...Here in the offerings of creation, the oblations of story and song, are our glimpses of truth.
