This is another dreamed view from old Goa. I had the chance of visiting three times Tiracol Fort, an old Portuguese Fort which is built on the mouth of the Tiracol river, on the border of two Indian States, Maharashtra and Goa. In this painting, I have imagined a music room with a view on the ocean, as I remembered them with a bit of fantasy.

The young lady on the Goan divan plays the sitar, behind her is a painting of an Indian jungle. And on her right through the window one can view the sea.
As I came back to Europe during the covid period, I remembered this view of Goa as a dream, a dream of being secluded - not in a Paris flat - but in an old Indian Portuguese Fort, overlooking the Indian ocean.
In this painting, the viewer has a choice of evasion, music, the sea or the jungle. One can also see in this painting the influence of Matisse, his rooms with a view in the French riviera.

Michel Testard, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1950, is a French artist with a deep-rooted artistic heritage, including 19th-century sculptors, publishers, and painters. Michel's early years were spent between Japan, Vietnam, and France. He began to illustrate his nomadic upbringing, sketching travel diaries, ocean liners, jungle animals, war scenes, comics stories, catechism images. Throughout his education, Testard's passion for art flourished, expanding into caricatures, scientific drawings, and fantasy scenes. His techniques evolved to include markers, pastels, and watercolours.

Despite his artistic inclinations, Testard pursued a formal education, graduating from the prestigious Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and INSEAD Business School. He embarked on an international management consulting career, living and working in over 80 countries, including 20 years in India. There, he developed a unique approach by integrating his artistic skills into business discussions, using sketches to clarify complex ideas and solutions, earning praise from senior executives. India also profoundly influenced his art. Inspired by the country's landscapes, people, and music, he transitioned from sketching to painting, working with ink, pastel, acrylic, and oil. In 2017, he held his first public exhibition in Delhi, showcasing works that reflected Indian rural and urban life, classical musicians, and spiritual figures.

Testard’s travels to places like Iceland, Antarctica, Vietnam, and Europe also inspired landscape series, capturing the unique beauty of these regions. Throughout his career, he has maintained an imaginative and humorous inner world, reflected in his fantasy themes, such as cubic musicians and cosmological landscapes. His portraiture includes self-portraits, friends, family, and abstract interpretations of faces. Looking ahead, Testard aims to continue exploring diverse themes, particularly focusing on landscapes and portraiture, while infusing his work with a touch of fantasy and humour. His journey, both artistic and personal, is one of constant discovery and creative evolution.
