"Capitalizing on a widespread curiosity of Idaho, a land of haunting isolation and a separatist spirit, this series offers a darker vision of American life that focuses on documenting not merely places in the state - but a state of mind. Embracing painting as a major means of expression, it eschews many modern tendencies, while still addressing contemporary issues (such as environmental & cultural decay, and the retrograde motion of art). Despite the self-imposed limits of the approach, it finds artistic inspiration in the everyday, and even goes so far as to suggest a glimmer of hope through unveiling the unseen beauty and radiance of the present moment, as well as a growing unease."

Artist Statement
This may be too confessional (?), but there are times when all the universe feels alive, and radiant, and connected, & it’s as if you’re looking out at the world and seeing nothing but innards. Then there are those other times… when you feel like an outsider right in the middle of it all. Or trapped in an eerily empty universe. Somehow my work is born from, and shaped by, the struggle of dealing with these two seemingly contradictory experiences. As well as the impulse to fill up space with something to make sense of it all.
