If we could write about painting with the same emotion as it speaks for itself, the painting’s existence will not be. That’s why the few words that will follow about Lia Anne Thibout’s artwork will never reflect in a fair way what she can express with a paintbrush. Yet, if those few words can emphasize her works…
Painter, photographer and sculptor, Lia Anne Thibout uses various mediums to expand her way of expression. One can recognize a common thread and singular sensibility within a diverse body of work.
Between Figuration and Suggestion, Lia’s work explores the limits of the human body, and the frontiers of female eroticism through themes of Dance, classical subjects inspired by Roman Art, and by mask and Portraiture.
During her extensive travels throughout Europe, Africa, and the United States, a series of Portraits are testament of the cultural influences that the artist has been exposed to.
From African Masks and Portraits, and a series of Italian nudes, to her Art Deco inspired Los Angeles’s works, the nudes enhanced with henna, made in Andalusia, were born of a voyage. Principally inspired by the Human embodiment and Civilizations, Lia speaks about the individual through a certain sense of purpose in the divine. We can easily find in each piece that which can be called an “esthetic of the sacred”. From Hieratical figures to sensual poses veiled by gold or mother of pearl, Lia Anne Thibout uses subjects or materials from classical iconography.
The diversity of her style extends to the animal world also. A little bestiary, of fascinating animals or hybrids monsters like the Sphinx, Dragon and Falcon, are relevant of an attraction for the emblematic.
Different muses sometimes perfume each series and possibly the colored periods. They reveal a curiosity, an admiration for foreign cultures, with a certain taste for the great civilization’s Art. The artwork is a voyage (sometimes imaginary) combined with poetry and the land of the enchanted. It could be serious, solemn and from time to time disconcerted with a bit of humor.
