Born in the spring of 1976 to a south Mississippi family, Jason H. Goff was raised with five brothers, and his creative talents were recognized at an early age. Jason's mother, Diane, taught him to draw simple flowers, which he promptly used to decorate the back of the family couch and the wall behind it. Then at the age of six, Jason took a standardized test in school in which he was asked to draw a picture of himself. While most students created stick figures, Jason drew a detailed, full-bodied rendition of himself. After seeing his self-portrait, school officials suggested placing Jason in art classes. Luckily, his parents had a friend who taught oil painting classes in Long Beach, MS. Jason was put in a class with two adult students, both of which asked to be moved to another class because they didn't want to be out-painted by a six year-old. Jason himself was only able to stay in the class for a few months due to financial limitations but he never abandoned his love for oil painting.
Jason's talents weren't limited to painting. Growing up in a poor family, he often made his own toys for he and his brothers to play with together. Jason became familiar with all kinds of media, especially water colors, pencil drawing, woodworking, and even poetry. Jason's creative talents and intellect earned him a spot in the Gifted and Talented program for exceptional students. Jason's only other formal art lessons came in four years of his high school's art program where he also excelled in his talents.
Jason has faced many hardships in his life, and those hardships have seemed to fuel his art. He has been through the same trials many others face today, including divorce, lack of employment, failed businesses, financial ruin, physical injury, betrayal of friends, and even two combat tours in Iraq. Behind every brushstroke is a story of pain and triumph. These stories are told in the description section of each painting on this website. Jason's desire to create "inspired art" truly came alive as he underwent a spiritual awakening, and now most of his art is faith-based because Jason puts his faith in Jesus Christ and the promise of a full, abundant life. Through his art , he now tries to honor the salvation of Jesus.
