Ioana

Honfleur, France
Artist (Painting, Printmaking)
Born 1944

IOANA, born in Romania, is a graduate of Fine Arts from Bucharest (1969). She has been living in France since 1971.

It is by working in gouache and water colors that she expresses most her talent as a colorist. Her painting is figurative. Her brush reacts differently depending on the media that she chooses: silk, paper, craft, cardboard or handmade traditional Thai paper; all the values are in the elegance of the design and the harmony of the colors.

Her admiration for Matisse is reflected in several paintings celebrating the famous Romanian blouses, the seascape may evoke Marquet, but it is the School of Paris that reflects her landscapes and portraits.

Her works reflect the different places where she has lived, Romanian villages and monasteries, landscapes of Breton or Norman seashores, mountain villages with alpine background.
Algeria and the Middle East, where she lived for several years, inspired her beautiful gouaches where the silhouettes of oriental women appear in a few strokes with their attitudes, their colors and their mystery.

IOANA has exposed at the Autumn Salon in Paris, the Salon of Versailles and Saint Germain en Laye. She had several solo exhibitions.

Today her studio in the heart of old Honfleur, a few feet from the Boudin Museum, allows her to exhibit more than a hundred gouaches on the centuries-old walls of what was formerly a cider cellar.
