Di Vetro.

From Russia with Love
Ausstellung von Sergey Sovkov
26.02. - 21.03.2015

Some are still around: the good news from Russia.
This one is about an unconventional artist, who refused to stop painting exactly what he finds appealing and is most interested in: The fascination of the male nude portrait Sergy Sovkov, born 1972, lives and works in Tolyatti, a city on the shores of the Volga, which is known mostly for their large automobile industry. From 1997 until 2004 Sergey Sovkov passed through a classic academic education in fine arts, which he completed in 2004 at the internationally renowned State Academy ‘Repin’ in St. Petersburg. A crucial element of his work is, besides still lives and cityscapes, the male nude portrait, in drawings, pastels and above all painted in oil. Whereas these stand out due to their specific and unmistakable technique; especially their richness and choice of colours are a reminder to figural mosaics or expressionistic stained-glass windows.Without doubt his models are Russian men, who are depicted in their natural environment. That is in Putins weird empire already a fact, which falls under the outlandish laws of ‘homosexual propaganda’. The consequence being that Sergey Sovkov had to resign from his post as a lecturer for fine arts.

Sergei Sovkov
Sergey painting shovels features bright, original manner of execution. Surrounding reality S. Scoops treats as a unity of multiplicity: the surface of his paintings is constructed of individual, contoured brush strokes. This way, a close kluazonizmu, allows the artist to express the richness of colors in the visible spectrum, to emphasize the uniqueness of each touch of the brush to the canvas. Subtle tones of light and shade so stressed out and not get lost in the mess of paint. The artist carefully places on canvas, palette knife often, colorful brush strokes, how mozaichist gradually reveals conceived image. These funds can represent not only the Savior on Spilled Blood, which also is in the arsenal S. shovels - a picture of the "Temple" - but the whole of the visible and imaginary world. To understand how to construct a piece of cloth wizard, just look at his "Self-Portrait", the picture in picture.
Any subject, any situation under the gaze of S. Sovkov gets the status distinctive phenomena of the microcosm. Such introspection in objects, phenomena and dreams are fond Mikhail Vrubel, S. Scoops withdrew its apogee. The similarity of his paintings with stained glass has prompted an Italian artist name for the style of the artist - «di vetro». Sergei Sovkov, beautiful graphics, working in pastels and soft material, makes itself felt in the paintings. His works also drawing attention - both at the preparatory stage in the form of sketches and drawings, as well as in the picture. As you can see, his paintings, despite the fragmentation of manners, always tightly constructed. Internal frame, intelligent composite lines always evident in the works of the master.
Social issue - one of the leading creative S. shovels. Accurate observer and philosopher of everyday life, he spies the story on the streets and in a cramped apartment in the courtyard and on the landing. Sketches of life in modern society clearly illustrates the value of the XXI century. It is no accident particle "not" is entered in the name of master paintings - a direct reference to the rejection of the old ideals of humanity, until the controversy with the Holy Scripture. Figurative names does not require additional comments: "It is not the Holy Trinity", "No Supper," "Do not Penitent Mary", "No mighty handful", "Angels do not live here anymore."
The younger generation has to scoop the main C. personification "of the world today and now." On the estimates of the artist mixed, frankly ugly side of life in pictures "addict" (or "Tomorrow will not"), "The Seagull," "The Return of the Prodigal Son" compensates life-affirming power of other paintings - "Guys and Stars," "Day of the City", " At a distance. " The color scheme - that of condensed-dark, the bright and optimistic - the best exponent of the ideological aspects of his paintings. But if the "girl" and "dude" may be suspected of irony and even sarcasm in the evaluation of the artist, the "girl emo" sad and pensive look model does not allow us to judge her harshly. Anthem of the youth of today sound picture "April", Young man, do not part with headphones, holding a bouquet of roses - a guarantee that the feelings and ways of expression are the same at all times. So what can we condemn this dapper young man?
Thus, S. Sovkov is in our eyes illustrator objective "book of life." Yes, the younger generation brings outrageous and freedom, rejects dogma and the blatant disregard "remnants" of fathers, as in the time of Turgenev. Under the permissiveness of course, it sometimes goes too far, but it is his own mistakes and experience. Yet this generation is not hopeless: it did not reject tradition and rethought it, and it has brought its own values, giving impetus to the development of society on a new trajectory. Why should certainly criticize his proposed road?
Romantic and lyricist, S. Sovkov depicts a beauty that has inspired artists for centuries: perfect forms of nature and the aesthetics of the human body. It is amazing how different purposes can serve the same way! No less surprising is how expressive look of different genres. The special charm gives way S. scoop floral composition and landscape. Kaleidoscope of individual strokes and volume reports velvety flowers, soft and rustle - each petal in the paintings "White Peonies", "Malva flowers", "Three gladiolus" and others Nude for the artist - is another popular story, where the game of color and light up climax. Machinery self smear in such works as "The Sea", "Paul", emphasizes the richness of the spectrum, which is the strength to catch the eye of the artist only. Poet and creator, C. Sovkov creates allegorical paintings. The images revealed in them, do not lose touch with figurative painting and at the same time have a romantic elation. In such films as "Love and Passion", "Secret Rendezvous", "Ruby Friday," "Dreamcatcher", S. Sovkov revealed as peerless artist colorist.
For each picture S. Sovkov selects the measure, a certain degree of failure by the softness of color shades in nature: from naturalistic smooth until leaving in decorative and fragmentation. Color in the paintings of the artist, in addition to the direct aesthetic function, is always a conductor certain mood. The variety of the genre in the works of S. shovels - the best proof of the universality found them manners.
