Article
I have been painting for 25 years, primarily in oil on canvas. Because I believe that an artist should never remain static, I am intent on exploring the essence and process of visual expression with the hope to engage the viewer at the deepest level of awareness and emotion.
In that pursuit, I constantly seek new dirsctions in subject matter, techniques and style. Currently, I am working with realism, surrealism and expressionism. Sometimes I attempt to blend them in my ongoing search for a deeper relationship of the creative idea and its adaptation to the canvas. Any form of art in it's purest state has the power to leave a lasting impression on the mind and soul. be it a beautiful painting, a lovely sonnet, or a moving musical score, artistic expression has the ability to universally communicate beyond the 5 senses.
Joe's Barber Shop
The painting "Joe's Barber Shop" won First Place in the category Still Life /Painting at the 2011 Regional Veteran's Art Competition in Denver Colorado. It was also selected entry into the 2011 National Veteran's Art Competition held in Fayetteville Arkansas, taking 2nd Place in the Still Life /Painting category.
