Hay Maté was born in Paris, in 1956, from Hungarian parents.
He lives a simple and happy childhood in Paris, his father is a carpenter.
While the country is preparing for a memorable total strike that will change the face of the French society, Maté starts painting, he is just 12 years old.

From 1968 to 1973, Maté studies the works of : Rembrandt, Turner, Géricault, Chardin ..
He earns his first money painting face portraits and commission works right in the street at “la butte Montmartre” in Paris.

Quickly, his work is noticed and soon he gets his firsts Shows in Béziers (1969 he is just 13 years old!). He then display his work in major cities Art Galleries : Marseille (1970-71) and Cannes (1972-73)

Period 1973 / 76 Hay Maté wants to see the world. Using his money from the sales of his artworks, he travels all over Europe and visit almost all great Museums. For 3 years he will travels countries, meet inhabitants, and learn from different cultures. He spends several months in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Danmark, Sueden, Tchecoslovakia, Great Britain, Yougoslavia, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Greece.

Period 1977 / 1987 The mind full of new inspiration and ideas, Maté continues on the way of creation : In Suippes, he creates 7 huge frescos (Nine Months work, 800 m2 covered).
In Holland (1981), he creates a new pictural movement, influenced by the work or Cézanne, he calls it "Neo-Cubism".
In 1982, he decides to go to Nepal and India to study different approaches over life and spirituality. He will stay there 1 year, living among natives. This journey and what he learned will stay in his mind forever.
In 1983, back in Europe, he now sells in major galleries in Amsterdam, London and Paris as well as International Art fairs. He still works on huge realizations such as a 3 Frescos Project for the Agricultural College of Nimes –Rodilhan. In 1987, he presents 120 Artworks at a Solo exhibition in Nimes.

Period 1988 / 2000 Hay mate is now an established painter. Paradoxally, he refuses the commercial process of Art paintings, and will refuse several contracts and commissioned works, even against great deals of money. In the meanwhile, he keeps exhibiting in major galleries and starts getting official recognition from the professionals :
In 1988 : International Grand Prix of Painting in Dauville
In 1989 : Grand Prix of France in the Visual arts (Official National Recognition).
In 1991 : Official Recognition “Lords of Art” in Aix-in-Provence (France).
In 1993 : GOLD Medal at the 6th show of Lézignan.
In 1996 : Show in Nimes (France) under the personal supervision of the French Minister of Culture Guillaume BAUMET.

Hay mate will hold his first retrospective in 1997 in Bouillargues (250 works presented).

Then, feeling the need to comeback to his origins, he will travel to Hungary, where he will present 100 works during an exhibition in Mohàcs (100 works, televised interview). From there, he goes back on hi...
