Art Biography of Jessie Vincent
Nov, 12, 2015

Jessie Vincent was born in January 31, 1980 in St Michel de l'att.. She studied drawing and painting with the famous Haitian artist Valcin II. She also studied architecture at the GOC University of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. These studies have enormously contributed to Jessie's way of understanding lines and colors and forged her artistic style. The lines and colors illustrate her sensitivity and expressive power, which is translated significantly into the core of her works. Every single dot matters to her.
Jessie is explorative. Her work illustrates a constant navigation between abstract, realism and surrealism.  She goes beyond the language of brushes and acrylics to create a better world where colors, dreams, and nature meet and convey a strong message.  She likes to engage in conversations with her surroundings in a flexible, timely, and contemporary way where nothing is permanent.   The colors are strong and lines are behind them to bring out shapes and emotions.
Jessie doesn’t feel that she has a particular influence from another artist. She believes that colors are key to achieving the full self-expression of the artist. There is a strong presence of spiritual surrealism in her artwork. She uses symbolism from the core Haitian culture that she comes from, and combines that with colors to reach her goal. Jessie is getting attention from artists in California as her work is speaking to several contemporary artists now.
She has been working in the shadows for several years, and now she’s moving to a different stage or to the next level.  Jessie believes that art is on a constant move just as life is, and she cannot afford to be insensible to her surroundings.
In “Supplication,” one of her works, Jessie puts colors and symbols into the painting to uncover the hidden face of shame and blame, and also express a quest for divine intervention. More importantly, she talks to what might be called rigid societal customs and norms, showing the burden of the invisible hand and mind.
