Icons are called" windows open on eternity" by some scholars. Such is the description accepted by Milena expressed in her sacred art studies trough this years.
Church fathers also call icons" gates that are open to contemplate the invisible divine realities".
The invisible images written on the icons of Milena surely are nothing else than a representation of the heavenly kingdom images, in order to remember and glorify in the church, the revelation of the LORD in the story of humanity.
Milena's Icons could be " doors " that show to our spiritual eyes the way to the communion of the saints, trough art and spiritual life.
Infact Milena is a contemporary iconographer related at first to the great family of Bysantine artists by using with harmony in her Italian artistic talent some unknown old armenian iconography techniques that go back to the X-XIV centuries of the reagion called Vaspuragan or Van ( Old Armenia).
Milena does not copy in a passive manner her icons but she enriches them with new symbols and resolutions. She is always in strict communion with traditional models giving them very unique and new artistic interpretations.
Trough Milena's Icons we gaze upon the spirituality of great Bysantine iconographers, their designs and oriental style that are represented in a sober Italian artistic way. Her new iconographic inventions bring us to participate and have an encounter with spiritual visions to the sacred mysteries of our Creator who became a man in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Always in the domain of sacred art Milena is a researcher of different lines, colours, figures and symbols that can make upset some traditional icon writers.
In Milena's art we find both continuity and variety related to Greek, Coptic, Siriac, Armenian, Russian and Italian iconography schools.
Her Italian artistic inspirations make her use beside egg tempera different modern art materials with balanced techniques which make us remember a true iconographer is never a mere copyist.
This iconographer does not belong to any traditional school she is new and unique in her Kind. Her icons reveal to us a transfigured human image-world that irradiates the divine light mixed with energy and holiness.
It is my confident expectation that her remarkable work will indeed contribute and add spiritual treasures to the body of Christ and bring blessings, holy vision and aid to all who seek the face of the Lord in sacred art.
May her icons enable their many viewers to discover windows, doors, gates and memories trough which they can personally connect to the invisible realms of our incarnated Lord Jesus the son of God crucified, buried and risen for our justification.
