Jean-Louis Landraud
Born in 1956 in Nice, Jean-Louis LANDRAUD is self-taught. His bronzes have a figurative base, but he plays on the fraction of the bodies, on the voids, giving them a great lightness which contrasts with the material. This "call for air" pulls us upwards, in a dreamlike approach that makes the invisible almost palpable and tangible. Beauty here combines presence and absence, expressing the complementarity of bodies oscillating between the material and the summer.
The sculpture of Jean-Louis LANDRAUD is lyrical above all and preaches, while playing on the vertigo of the senses , for perfect happiness of the senses (Nice morning 0/26/99)
"For me the dream is the door open to creation: it therefore seems essential to me for an Artist to be able dream. But certain painful events in life make us lose our part of the dream. A major open-heart procedure in 2007 pushed me into the world of suffering; my ability to dream was impaired; I then thought it was extinct.
Several months passed like this... Then came the time for the cherries. A few cherries to look at placed there on my workshop table... the simplicity and purity of this fruit suddenly fills me with emotion: its so warm “red” color, which evokes blood, fragile and ephemeral life like that of time cherries, its pure forms which follow the curves of the human body. Cherries bringing renewal and spring... Cherries to eat, not out of hunger but out of greed, just for pleasure... Slowly, very slowly, and thanks to the Cherries the dream reinvests my life.
That's why I decided to make cherries “my” symbol of Life: present in all my new creations, today I make them my second signature.

"To me, Dream is the open door to CREATION: Dreaming then, becomes essential for an artist.
However, paintful events in life can shut off the part of dreams inside us.
A heavy open-heart surgery in 2007 turned my life into a world of suffering. My dreaming ability was affected. I thought it was forever turned off. Months went on this way...
And came cherry blossom time. A few cherries laying on my workshop desk to look at... the simplicity and purity of this fruit suddenly filled me up with all kind of emotion: its “red” color, so worm, recalling blood, a fragile life fleeting like the cherry blossoms, its shapes so pure following the human being curves...
Cherries bringing springtide...cherries to eat not for hunger but for greed, for pleasure only...
Slowly, very slowly, thanks to the cherries, Dream reinvested my life again.
This is why I choose the cherries to become “my” symbol of “Life”: a part of all my new creations from now on, I make it my second signature. .."

Article
