M’inspirer d’un peuple nomade aux richesses infinies…M’approprier leurs images et les présenter avec mes couleurs : voici deux de mes principales préoccupations artistiques.
Mes compositions sont constituées de personnages provenant de partout dans le monde mais principalement de l’Afrique. Ces êtres au teint basané renaissent sous mon pinceau dans un traitement qui se veut le plus figuratif. N’ayant aucun lien avec les peuples africains, je ne peux donc pas expliquer la force de cette attirance. Par contre, je soupçonne que mes racines proviennent de ces pays.
Souvenirs de voyages, empreintes d’un peuple dont la richesse est calculable par les valeurs qu’il véhicule, ces images, ces bouts de vie sont mes plus grandes sources d’inspiration. Par mon pinceau, je désire faire voyager le regardeur.
J’accorde aussi une grande importance aux liens familiaux : ceux qui unissent la mère et son enfant, le frère et sa sœur. Souvent, mes personnages sont en couple. De plus, beaucoup de femmes sont présentent dans mon œuvre.
Mes toiles sont bordées par des encadrements artisanaux fabriqués avec des matériaux qui rappellent l’Afrique : bois et cordes de jute, qui donnent un caractère particulier à mes compositions picturales.
Parallèlement à mon travail en arts visuels, je suis saxophoniste de jazz. Cette autre forme d’art m’inspire aussi. La musique, celle que je joue comme celle jouée par les autres, berce mes journées et par le fait même, influence mon corpus. Dans un langage formel simple, je traduis l’intensité des musiciens. Pianistes, trompettistes se retrouvent donc dans un espace pictural qui tend vers l’abstraction. La plupart de ces œuvres nous sont offertes dans des tons sombres, où le sujet est placé dans un univers vaporeux.
Peintes à l’acrylique, ces images, représentations réalistes de la vie, nourrissent l’âme, le mien et je souhaite, celle de tous ceux qui seront en contact avec mes tableaux.
