Inna Skliarevskaia
Hard outlines, saturated, often unexpected colors, strong temper, vivid rhythm, quick and relaxed painting...
Inna Skliarevskaya was born in an St.Petersburg communal flat in ex-house of Russian prince with windows facing the Winter Channel and the Hermitage Theater. After a study at the Fine Arts Academy she studied ballet history at the Theater Academy, worked successful as a ballet critic and later left theater to devote her to the art of painting. Since 1993 she participated in more then 80 exhibitions in Russia and Europe, including personal art shows in Paris, in London, in Hamburg, in Petersburg, in Moscow and in Vienna. She is a member of the Artists Union of Russia since 1994. In 2000 she joined the artistic group Children of Arkhip Kuingi. This creative institution unites artists aspiring to reinstate painting and to infuse traditions with modern content.
Inna's works of recent years represent figurativ painting with free treatment of forms and colors. Hard outlines, saturated, often unexpected colors, strong temper, vivid rhythm, quick and relaxed painting remind one of fauvism, but the artist is far from following somebody's traces. Her paintings? key characteristic is spontaneity; she works unhindered by premeditated concepts.
The works of Inna Sklyarevskaya are kept in the collection of the French
national library, Museums of the contemporary art ERARTA and TSARSKOE SELO COLLECTION (St-Petesburg), National Art Museum in Novosibirsk, Collection of the Central Exhibition Hall Manege (St-Petersburg), in private collections in Austria, Germany, Russia,

" My relations with painting are rather strange. It's not me who owns and commands my work, but the other way round. My paintings decide what they will be. In 1981, immediately after my graduation from the School of Arts of Fine Arts Academy, my painting had suddenly left me for the long 10 years. I followed another road, went into ballet history, became a ballet critic, joined the Union of Theater Specialists and the European Association of Dance Historians. My articles were published in different countries, and again, suddenly, painting came back and took hold of me. Often my future work does not consult me at all: for example I have thought it as blue and it gets yellow all by itself. Well, I like this sort of relations. I trust them more than my own concepts or intellectual efforts. This is why I paint fast, usually alla prima: if I go back to the same canvas tomorrow, it will become a different picture?"
