Dr. Roseann Labrocca

RoseAnn began her career as a Fashion Designer in New York City during the 1970's after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology,NY,NY . This beginning is reflected in her current pieces using fibers .
Moving away from the city in the 80's , most of RoseAnn's work was free lance . She continued her art education at Georgian Court College , Lakewood New Jersey graduating with a BA in Fine Arts and Art Education. Her MA in art was completed at Kean University, New Jersey . Upon completion ,she was accepted into the National Association of Women Artists based in New York City , Her most recent pieces were shown at the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University , NJ. With a passion for sharing her love of art , she is also currently teaching art.

My work is indirectly related to my previous career as a fashion designer in New York City’s garment center . To be able to take the threads that could easily become a part of our throw away society, as small and insignificant as they may seem and create art that evokes both simplicity and intimacy. Art that extends a quiet invitation to the viewer to follow the path of a strand where it might lead. Art that invites the viewer to feel this warmth .
I invite the viewer to travel through my work, around woven pieces of thread and paper and paint that could be representational of many things.
Circular forms that are representative of returns to beginning, much as the journey that my art has become. Semi- circular shapes that represent the part of life that stops and sometimes return in a somewhat different path. Open shapes that are representative of the space that is so necessary to have to see beyond the obvious. There is a musical quality to my work, a sense of rhythm, repetition and movement. It is evident when I weave,paint or simply and arrange the elements of my composition.
