For thousands of years the caravans travel through the desert states of the Near and Middle East. The distant trade routes brought inhabitants of the states prosperity and wellbeing. But equally many conflicts and wars with the struggle for valuable goods.
In our time too the goods, oil, defines the destiny of this desert region.
In the back top half of the picture we notice an oil refinery with typical natural gas flare. The factory is lit up as if itself the sunrise wishing to brighten the new day. Otherwise the sky seems dark.
Under the refinery we see the camels moving to the East. But on the same road military tank columns move westwards. These opposite movements and the differing means of transport mean war in this country. The tanks carry but one ware – death.
In the foreground we see two soldiers at the base fire. Is there a ceasefire? Is it nighttime or is the sky darkened by smoking dust?
What at first glance looks comfortable, can also be calm before the storm. Or a few minutes of relaxation between battles, needed to dry the sweat from their boots and give themselves new courage with a speech.
The weapon is not put out of hand and there is no time to take the uniform off.
It is about conquering the trade-routes and securing well-being/prosperity.

Annamalt und Edward Naujok erhalten den Rheinland-Pfälzischen Friedenspreis 2014. Das hat die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Friedensgruppen in Rheinland-Pfalz entschieden. Sie wird in diesem Jahr zum siebten Mal den Rheinland-Pfälzischen Friedenspreis verleihen.
In ihren Bildern und Installationen greifen Annamalt und Edward Naujok friedenspolitische, soziale, menschenrechtliche und ökologische Themen auf. Dr. Gernot Lennert von der AG Friedensgruppen erklärte: „Annamalt und Edward Naujok bereichern mit ihren Kunstwerken seit etlichen Jahren die Friedensbewegung in Rheinland-Pfalz und darüberhinaus. Mit der Preisverleihung wollen wir diese Arbeit würdigen und unterstützen.“
Mit dem Rheinland-Pfälzischen Friedenspreis Preis sollen bedeutsame Beiträge zur Förderung des Friedens und der Gerechtigkeit in der Gesellschaft gewürdigt werden. Erwünscht ist ein Bezug zum Land Rheinland-Pfalz. Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft will mit der Auszeichnung zum persönlichen Engagement für den Frieden und gegen Konfliktlösungen mit Hilfe militärischer Gewalt ermutigen.

Die Preisvergabe findet am 29.11.2014, 18.00 Uhr im Cafe Momo, Agritiusstraße/Ecke Gartenfeldstr. statt.Die Laudatio hält Klaus Jensen, Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Trier, Musik spielt Ben Beat (Herr Kellner).
