PhotoPodium is one of the youngest photographic resources in the Web; it was registered in the USA in December 2008. PhotoPodium managed to unite interesting professional and amateur photographers from the regions of Russia and former USSR, who live in different countries today. The exhibition at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents works selected in the course of the contest held among the users of the site.
The project aims at organizing some kind of a cultural dialogue and a possibility of creative exchange between Russian-speaking emigrants of the latest times and English-speaking professionals and lovers of photography. Having proposed to the authors from all parts of the world to submit works of specified genres, creators of the site engage in a game of cultural identification. For example, one can see how photographers from Russia, Ukraine, the USA, Israel, Germany, or other countries view a cityscape or arrange a photographic portrait. In other words, it is the photography and the photographer's vision that leads the spectator back to the author's origins, to his cultural situation.
The exhibition presents works by 65 members of PhotoPodium coming from the USA, Israel, European countries, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other cities of Russia. The photographs are grouped according to the principle of genre, such as Cityscape, Architecture, Nature, Reportage, Portrait, and others. In the exhibition space, photographs will be demonstrated as slide shows on several wide-screen plasmas.

Article
As an architect and urban planner working for an architectural firm, I spend my days thinking about structures and making drawings of proposed buildings and complexes, set in their surroundings. But when I “free-lance,” I choose portraits. The work I exhibit on this site and I have exhibited in galleries are my portraits. The human form—especially the human face—fascinates me. Faces—and by extension my portraits of them—convey complex human feelings and emotions. I am moved and inspired by those around me, and I take many opportunities while traveling through the world (especially on New Jersey Transit) to artistically render glimpses into the human conditions: people reading, sleeping, thinking, just being.
