All That Shines Under The Dirt is an immersive installation composed of giant flowers made of crashed cans found in Detroit. I made 19 giant flowers (inspired by drawing made by kids and people of the neighborhood ). I collected and washed crashed cans for about 20 months.
Artist Statement for the project
All That Shines Under The Dirt is what catches my eyes, sparks of light under the dirt, dormant energy lost (tossed) in space, traces of human behavior which I sense and have a desire to gather. I feel if I assemble all this energy together into a new form I will understand something about my surroundings and our human fragility. It’s also my desire to pick up the ugly, dirty, discarded, unwanted, disposable object and give it a second chance to be seen.

What do we choose to focus on to engage our attention? For how long? What really is reality? Is it what I see, what I think, what other think? Where do I find truth?
If I feel disoriented I go back to my senses to make sense, to keep me grounded and present by connecting to a physical world. I practice presence by seeing what's right in front of me.
