A young boy, painted in shades of black and white, traverses a spent field of flowers reflecting the remnants of a past spring. The scene unfolds with a delicate fusion of mixed media and collage, capturing the essence of both melancholy and youthful resilience.

The faded field of flowers becomes a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life, where beauty fades but leaves an imprint on the soul. As the boy walks, his gaze is fixed on a distant black shadow, a ghostly silhouette beckoning him forward. Is it a ghost of the past, a future yet to unfold, or a metaphorical threshold between innocence and experience?

The vintage aesthetic gives the painting something timeless, evoking a sense of nostalgia that transcends specific eras. The subdued palette of black, white and pastel colors, captures the nuances of emotion,

"Lost and Found" resonates with the universal theme of the human journey - a poignant exploration of the transitory nature of youth, the melancholy of the passage of time and the hopeful anticipation of what lies beyond the horizon.

db Waterman is a contemporary Dutch artist. In her works she assembles original photography, assorted papers, acrylics, oil, charcoal, ink, and pencil. The variety of resources she is able to use has proved indispensable to her. The biggest challenge the collage medium posed was its unforgiving lack of transparency. Finding a way to replicate the effects of transparency afforded by paint, especially watercolors, was a large victory for the artist. The preparing labor shows through in her collages; layer upon layer of material remains visible in the finished pieces.

db Waterman believes that the body of her work is characterized by her skill for reinvention. Having always loved the appearance of weathered walls plastered with peeling paint and old posters, she revived this aesthetic with hopefully a keen and professional eye. The creative objective of her work is to “make something beautiful out of dilapidation.” Her tableaus explore the dissonance between old and new materials, intertwined in the most beautiful way possible to create dreamlike and melancholy images.
