my web site is now getting world wide exposure - and while a peeling birch tree might seem atypical to us here in Canada - I am certain it might hold interest to others around the world who have not witnessed this - the birch tree sheds its bark as it grows in diameter - this photo however shows bark that has most likely been stripped by someone looking for material to start their fire with ... it burns with intensity - birch bark like this was also used by the native Ojibway Indians in Lake Superior to make their canoes from - the colors of the exposed tree - the pinkiness of the bark layers and the outer pure white layer makes for a sharp contrast image against the green backdrop .... I have seen it often but maybe not appreciated it as much before ...
