Sophie Bramly est née en Tunisie en juin 1959. Elle étudie à Penninghen et débute sa carrière de photographe en participant à l’exposition Autoportraits, au Centre George Pompidou, aux côtés de photographes comme Man Ray, Duane Michaels ou Sophie Calle. Elle travaille ensuite pour divers magazines.
A 22 ans, elle part s’installer à New York et s'immisce rapidement dans la scène naissante du Hip-Hop du Bronx, la photographiant pendant trois ans.
De retour en France en 1984, elle travaille comme directrice artistique sur la première émission de TV consacrée au Hip-Hop, au titre éponyme,sur TF1 et publie un premier livre de photos, Hip Hop Story.
En 1987, elle part à Londres et devient membre de l'équipe fondatrice de MTV Europe, créant, produisant et animant « Yo ! », première émission de télévision hip-hop en langue anglaise, un concept que MTV U.S. reprend un an plus tard.
À partir des années 90, Sophie se tourne vers le web, dont elle aime les possibilités infinies et lance le département digital d'Universal Music France.
En 2007, elle s'engage autour de la sexualité des femmes et écrit des livres et produit et/ou réalise des films sur le sujet, promus à travers son site secondsexe.com.
En 2011, elle a sa première exposition personnelle à Galerie 12 Mail, montrant ses photos prises dans le Bronx 30 ans plus tôt. Cela marque son retour à la photographie. Elle a depuis publié 5 livres de photos et exposé en Europe et aux US.
