Anfang der 90er Jahre beschließt ein Künstler, seine gewohnte Umgebung im malerischen Frankenland im Norden Bayerns zu verlassen. Er verlässt sein sicheres und erfolgreiches Künstlerleben in Arnstein bei Würzburg und zieht an einen neuen, inspirierenden Ort namens Lanzarote.
Er tauscht die liebliche Natur und die bürgerliche Idylle gegen einen radikalen, unsicheren Neuanfang auf einer Vulkaninsel. Es war die widersprüchliche Faszination, in die sich der Maler Manfred Beck-Arnstein verliebt hatte, als er 1995 seinen Lebensmittelpunkt endgültig auf die Insel verlegte.
Bereits bei seiner ersten Reise nach Lanzarote im Jahr 1972 war er fasziniert von den Urkräften, die die Insel zu bieten hat. Er hatte auch das Gefühl, dass er genug vom deutschen Grün in Grün gesehen hatte und eine drastische Veränderung brauchte, um neue Inspiration für seine zukünftigen Kunstwerke zu bekommen. Manfred Beck-Arnstein spürte die allmähliche Veränderung und beschloss, die Elemente außer Kraft zu setzen.
