Français d’origine, Jean-Christian Knaff s’est établi au Canada au début des années 1980, après des études en langue et littérature anglaises et en communication à l’Université Stendhal de Grenoble. En plus d’enseigner dans des universités au Canada et au Royaume-Uni, il a mené une carrière d’auteur et illustrateur en Europe et en Amérique du Nord. Ses livres richement illustrés ont paru chez des éditeurs de Londres, Paris, Munich, New York et Montréal, et ses illustrations ont été publiées dans de nombreuses revues prestigieuses. Il a réalisé plusieurs films d’animation, dont certains primés. Il vit à Valencia (Espagne) tout en enseignant au Ontario College of Arts and Design.
