Im Jahr 1988 begann er die Abendakademie an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig im Bereich Malerei und Grafik.
1993 gründete er die Künstlergemeinschaft „Artischocke“. Ein Jahr später widmete er sich Multimedia-Performances und Happening-Events in Leipzig und begann seine Laufbahn als freischaffender Künstler. In dieser Zeit stellte er seine Werke in Verkaufsausstellungen in Leipzig, Bad Frankenhausen, Wittenberg, Ulm und Berlin aus.
1995 zog Tom Roger nach Königswinter bei Bonn. Dort präsentierte er seine Arbeiten in weiteren Verkaufsausstellungen in Bonn und Königswinter. Für das Kunstprojekt „Artischocke“ erhielt er im selben Jahr einen Award der Körber-Stiftung und gründete ein Grafikatelier in Königswinter.
Im Jahr 1999 folgte der Umzug nach Bad Honnef bei Bonn, wo er Atelier- und Ausstellungsräume einrichtete. 2010 entwickelte er seinen charakteristischen Spachtelstil, die sogenannte Pixel-Art.
Im Jahr 2020 begann er, surrealen und kubistisch-expressionistischen Malstil zu verbinden, wodurch neue, motivationsgebende Werke entstanden. Schließlich verfeinerte er seinen kubistischen Spachtelstil und schuf damit weitere bedeutende Arbeiten.
