Als Sohn einer deutschen Mutter und eines französischen Vaters in St-Germain-en-Laye geboren, stammt Nathanaël Gourdin von einer kunstaffinen Familie. Die frühe und andauernde Begeisterung für Automobildesign führt ihn zum Designstudium mit stark konzeptioneller Ausrichtung an der École Régionale des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Étienne, wo er 1997 nach zwei Auslandssemestern an der Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (Vysoká Škola Výtvarných Umení) seinen Abschluss macht. Neben seiner künstlerischen Tätigkeit leitet Nathanaël Gourdin das Designbüro Studio Gourdin, das vordergründig mit der Planung von Interiordesign und Signaletik an der Schnittstelle zwischen Architektur und Grafik tätig ist. Fasziniert durch die Kraft der Farbe(n) entwickelt er zunächst eine große Leidenschaft für Expressionismus, zunehmend in seinen abstrakten Formen. Im Vordergrund steht dabei sein Fokus auf die sinnliche Wahrnehmung und Erfahrung gegenüber dem künstlerischen Gegenstand.
