Sushma is a French artist who lives in Tavira. After a long five year initiation journey started in 1995, she chose North Africa to develop and explore different painting and sculpture techniques, and to express the images collected alongon the way. She held her first exhibition of painting and ceramics in 2005 in Sidi Bou Said, in Tunisia, and has since continued to sell her paintings in different countries.
In 2013, she graduated as an art therapist fromat the Faculty of Medicine of Tours before working with Alzheimer patients and Syrian refugees in Iraq.
Her regular stays in India and Japan, where she exploreds meditative art, led her gradually from the figurative to the abstract, always in the pursuit of a state of silence and immersion, proper suited more to the revelation more than creation. In theseis works, presented at the gallery, Sushma uses colours, shapes and textures in the technique of creating monotypes, with acrylic additions, exploring different levels through the successive layering of acrylic s that will appear in a single impression. Such as old forgotten parchment, they reveal a quest through invisible territories revealing footprints, human or plant traces.
“One must still have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star.”
