Alexis Boileau is a French pastellist born in 1985. Self-taught artist, he discovered and realised his scales with a confirmed pastellist in the late 90s. He was immediately fascinated by this material allowing to work directly with the pigment, and all the possibilities. "The pastel is a living material. It reacts with, the paper, the applied pressure or the moisture... Living material as stick, it must continue to live and vibrate onto the paper."
His hyperrealistic works are inspired by simple themes with a predilection for gastronomy. He tries to explore new and unexpected dimensions with a keen eye... Without any particular staging, his paintings are an immediate captation of ordinary and ephemeral moments. The technique must fade to highlight the truth of the subject.
