Yavo Landry KOMENAN is a painter and sculptor.
After law school, he definitively launched himself into his lifelong passion, art.
He thus joined the Beaux Arts d'Abidjan.
He is one of the seeds that Mathilde Moreau (Director of the National School of Fine Arts of Abidjan) sowed to ensure the next generation in the world of culture and arts.
In October 2010, he joined the School of Fine Arts of Marseille, where he further refined his work, from the movement of bodies to suspension.
He participated in the Competition organized by the Town Hall of the 6th and 8th arrondissements of Marseille, on the theme of "Rendez-vous du David", he was the winner of the final stage.
Inspired by the impact of Man on the ecosystem, its impact on our dreams, as well as the degradation of the environment and the ecological system. The upheaval of society through human ambitions, the artist expresses himself through movements, bodies, he makes it his signature. The taste for challenge is linked in almost all of his works.
His interpretation of movement, his ability to manipulate materials, and his personal writing of emotion immerse the viewer in the intimacy and mystery of gestures. Like a knowing wink addressed to sensualism, he sculpts with a free gesture his pronounced taste for their expression, their humor and their tenacity.
In his early days, the artist used modeling to create his works. The finish depends on the work in its context or the client: bronze, plaster, sawdust, polyester. Today we see a clear evolution in his technique; he works with living materials, wood elements, charcoal, stems, and other elements of nature.
After an artistic break, Yavo returns with new techniques that he uses with a pairing of painting and sculpture. His art represents the movement of the character that he tries to achieve directly on the works. He learned sculpture in Ivory Coast, painting in France, nowadays his work is represented by his two disciplines. A perfect marriage between the sculpture of bodies in relief and painting on a painted canvas.
He offers a perfect fusion, a remarkable harmony, using the practice learned in Africa to sculpt European characters, and that learned in Europe to magnify African Art on a painting canvas. His work highlights the two cultures that coexist.
His works are made of different materials, such as expanding foam, sawdust, natural pigments, charcoal… They must then be considered as a true blending of the invisible world into the visible, from inspiration to creation, from the real world to the non-real. Sensualism is openly expressed through his works where touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste coexist.
