Borele’s Medium and Unique Process
Using a Polaroid, Vladimir captures fleeting moments of reality and transforms them through the rare technique of Polaroid emulsion lift. This creative process allows you to lift an image from a Polaroid and in the process, create a new work of art shaped by movement, manipulation, and texture. The consistency of the emulsion allows you to fold, fan, twist, and layer your image in new and creative ways. Vladimir values the tactile experience, using high quality watercolor paper with a rough texture and Polaroid emulsion that disintegrates under his fingers. This process is not very predictable, which makes it similar to ordinary life, where not everything is under our control and we have to rely on our experience and a bit of luck.

Vladimir Borele is a photographer and visual artist who is based in Kazakhstan. He searches for meaning and examines reality through visual poetry. His work encompasses several themes: explorations of mortality through Polaroids of degraded natural and man-made surfaces; themes of a broken world, climate-related catastrophes, psychological trauma; and examinations of emigration, identity and self-realisation amidst the fluid moralities and new paradigms of the data age. Using a Polaroid camera, he captures fleeting moments of reality and transforms them using the rare technique of Polaroid emulsion lift. He shares his knowledge of photography by teaching in Kazakhstan and online. He actively participates in international exhibitions and has won and been a finalist in several photography competitions.
