Tim Malone studied Fine Art in South Africa and subsequently worked as an award-winning advertising art and creative director for almost 40 years. Now that experience defines his artistic process. His approach to painting reflects the process in which layouts for print advertising are developed; any addition, deletion or amendment made to any part of the work impacts every other part. This means that solving one design problem often creates others, until a balanced result is finally achieved.
While Tim’s work is sometimes non-objective, it is always influenced by the social complexities, colours, shapes and textures of the places he’s lived and worked – South Africa, Saudi Arabia, England and Portugal.
Tim works in acrylic on canvas, paper and board, creating details using a variety of other media. Much of his work is preference being hot-pressed watercolour paper, which is slightly absorbent, but allows the paint to be moved over the surface with relative ease.
Covilha, Portugal
I will be exhibiting at the ANTÓNIO LOPES GALLERY throughout November. The exhibition is part of the Covilhã Creative Week, (8 - 14 November 2022), which will feature a diverse program that encompasses a set of free and simultaneous cultural activities, open to the community. This event takes place within the scope of the Action Plan of Covilhã, City of Design and is a major milestone in the cultural program scheduled for the second half of 2022. The start of Covilhã Creative Week will take place on November 8th, Municipal Day of Culture, and marks the first anniversary of the designation of Covilhã as a Creative City by UNESCO.
After almost a year of house renovations, we moved on to converting a barn into our new studio. Here are some before and after pics!
After moving to Portugal at the end of 2020, we bought a house in the tiny village of Ferrarias in the central region of Castelo Branco. We moved into the house in March and as it needs some serious renovations, we have been living on a building site. After completing the basic urgent renovations, we finally completed a temporary studio. The plan is to convert the garage into the permanent studio, but theres so much to do before we take that job on.
