Landscapes II (2008) Prenten & gravures door Suca

A word, a poem, a landscape, a color, a form. Nothing escapes the attentive eyes of the artist Suca. She records what she likes in inspiring hardcover notebooks. In 40 years of professional trajectory, she collects dozens of diaries with phrases, drawings and studies of painting and ceramics. "It is a dialogue with myself." Graduated in plastic arts, Suca first fell in love with drawing, later with watercolor, painting  and ceramics. In 2004, she equipped her pleasant studio in Brazil with high-temperature ovens. “Fire is my partner. I have some control over it, but the burning of the pieces can always reserve surprises and that fascinates me”. Suca lives and works in Cotia, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Suca is a colorist with landscape works as the focus of that interest. Her works are not portraits of places but scenes that are subjected to abstraction, still recognizable but infused with colors and values beyond the normal. She explores landscape themes, subjecting them to dramatic extremes of light and color combinations that are richly stimulating and at times poetic. Art is not something we have to have, but for many of us we like the feeling of artwork in the home or public spaces.
