So Zo (Sonya Zograbyan) is an abstract expressionist and symbolist painter. Her work embodies the philosophy of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. Her technique of layering and then destructing paint creates textures that reflect the fleeting, ever-changing essence of life, celebrating the harmony found in natural processes of creation and decay. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, Sonya draws inspiration from mythology, dreams, and symbols. Her work delves into the subconscious, seeking to transcend the everyday and invite viewers into hidden worlds.
In addition to her painting career, Sonya is also a theatrical artist, having designed costumes for over 20 performances. She graduated from the Academy of Theatre Arts, where she studied under renowned artists Natalia Nesterova, Sergey Barkhin, and Evgeny Vakhtangov. Additionally, she pursued further education at the British Higher School of Art and Design (BHSAD).
