Sanctuary in Amber Arms reinterprets maternal guardianship through the lens of sacred ritual. The mother’s embrace transforms into an amber-hued temporal vessel cradling an infant, whose skin textures emerge from impasto layers evoking the weight of existence. Fragmented ruins of a temple in the background clash with floating thorned roses, juxtaposing divinity and fragility. Golden threads entwining the arms symbolize both umbilical bonds and ancestral lineage, while cool tones of faded fresco yellow contrast with warm ivory hues, transfiguring the swaddle into a time-defying emblem of faith. Ji Rui's life began on March 2, 1985 in Harbin, China. When he was young, he was admitted to the Harbin Academy of Art for further studies. After graduation, he used commercial painting to support himself (illustration, comics, magazine illustrations, photographer, etc.), and he has been working hard to improve his skills after work. After he became a disciple of Mr. Li Zhenyu, a famous Chinese oil painter in 2015, the direction of his life became clearer, and he began to devote almost all his energy to artistic creation. So far, he has participated in more than 30 national, provincial and municipal art exhibitions and won many awards. He successfully joined the provincial/municipal artist association and served as a member of the provincial artist committee. He has participated in the training of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Artists Association many times. Ji Rui was deeply influenced by artists such as Euan Uglow, Li Zhenyu, and William-Adolphe Bouguereau in his painting creation, and is committed to finding the perfect balance between realism and freehand brushwork.
