I am an artist. My roots take place in St.Petersburg which great architecture, culture and history influenced me once and forever.
Today, in the time of technical progress, mass production and new artificial materials I search for inspiration in the foundation of Arts — old Russian Orthodox icons, Renaissance and folk cultures. I seek for new shapes and images within my themes using different materials, but the favorite is glass for its plasticity and ability to transform. In the process of creation I look for the metaphoric image to describe my idea.
Working at the edge of two great cultures (Russia and Europe) gave an enormous impulse to me. A synthesis of those and my personal life experience influence my art ideas, and my work forms in a way of a puzzle. My life stories, colors, emotions like particles of the puzzle shape an image.
Here you may see my work :stained-glass windows, painting, glass, porcelain.

Workshop of the artist
Production of stained-glass panels (from the the French vitre - window glass), one of the old and, perhaps, one of the most mystical depictive skills. Not without reason the first stained-glass panels (glass fragments of Christ's images, found at the excavations, they are dated by 540 years A.D.) were used in the cult construction. Did occur this because in those times not there was possibility to make large glass sheets? Or because the light, penetrating the many-colored glass-, did create the special emotional atmosphere, so important for the temple?
One way or another, but after a lapse of the time, stained-glass panels they became to decorate not only churches, but secular buildings, living quarters, furniture... And nevertheless stained-glass panel was and remains skill elite. That in the antiquity, that now the production of "magic glass" to 100% the manual work is tedious and is labor-consuming.
Svetlana Romanov - one of those, the magic of stained-glass panel is subject to whom. In 2000 it graduated from The mukhinskoye school. In 2002g. she became the member of the union of artists. But before it passed instruction in the school im. Rerikha, according to the class of painting, and she worked as instructor in the artistic school, where it began to be occupied by ceramics. After deciding more closely to be introduced to the new, for it by material, it entered into The the mukhinskoye the department of glass and ceramics. It was soon revealed that the soft charm of ceramics grows dim before the magic attractiveness of the glass, which has its nature and clearly expressed individuality.
Like any living skill, stained-glass panel are developed, it is modified, absorbing world view and movements of the epochs, through which it passes. But in any times it remains the "strong" in emotional and artistic sense element of the interior or building, which besides the decorative function bears the specific semantic load. So it was considered in the epoch of romanticism (beginning and the middle of 19 centuries) that the colored layer, superimposed to the transparent glass-, as if it protects man from the temptation, hiding the thoughts of fate and wrapping by shielding veil the dazzling godly light, too bright for the simple mortal. But already on the outcome of the same century, the rastsvechennoye window was called fence off internal interior and internal peace of man from the intrusion of environment. Stained-glass panels they became to decorate the rooms, intended for leisure,: boudoirs, tank, smoking rooms. And the accomodation, where the intellectual and spiritual activity passed: offices, library, house churches, domestic museums.
One of the complexities of work with the stained-glass panel, as is considered Svetlana Romanov, his dependence on the architectural style of building, and the task of artist on the stained-glass panel "to enter" its creation in the interior, without disrupting style and tradition. This is especially important for the historical structures and the interiors where, as a rule, are more appropriate anything classical stained-glass panels, with the fragments in the lead or brass braiding, with the painting on the glass. Now, in the beginning of the third millenium interest in the stained-glass panels again survives lift. Is connected this with the growing volume of building? Nostalgia whether on the old times, and can be simply the tendency to hide unattractive view behind the window? Nevertheless, that desire to decorate with stained-glass panels contemporary apartment not too it is small. However it is strange, new constructions allow to stained-glass panel more space, than historical interior, making it possible to use and to combine different of the technology of performance. F'yuzing, "baking" of glass picture in the furnace, without the use of lead braiding.
Putting figure by the sand-blast method, when the jet of sand under the large pressure carves on the glass the invoice, lusterless patterns, similar to those that they appear at the windows during the frost day. Will be located place and to facet - angular glass. Is not excluded, of course, both classics and painting. Nevertheless and in the contemporary interiors stained-glass panel is not created spontaneously, but it is agree ond with the architecture of building, general of ideas and by the composition of accomodation. Being the very powerful element of decor, stained-glass panel, can how give to interior solidity, so bring down it to the farce. Also and with the illumination: the "filter" of colored glass is capable to give to room comfortable softness or to make its dark and gloomy. To artist on the stained-glass panels one must take into account each nuance and special feature of accomodation. Another matter is machine-tool stained-glass panel, stained-glass panel- picture, which Svetlana makes for the most part for the exhibitions and for the soul. Everything is here possible, and there is no limitations for the creation and experiment.
The free flight, when ideas appear from from anywhere. It is difficult to describe this process by words, it is better simply to glance at the stained-glass panels and the pictures, created by Svetlana. Its works decorate many particular houses, apartments and casino "premier" on Nevsky Prospekt. Exactly now they complete the work on the stained-glass panels Of nikitinskoy estate in Kolomne. Svetlana Romanov collaborate with such architects as Sergey Yerofey, Aleksandr maslakov, Denis Pronin, Barbara Klimov, Yaroslav zolotykh and by many others. "me it seems, 4 nothing I devise.
By glass- auto proposes subject, it is necessary to only listen, and... to personify "- Svetlana says. Apparently, the criterion of craftsmanship these are not only the sharpened technology, but also the skill to breathe in into its creation life - to hear the voice of that not of yet existing, and soak to it to be carried out.

The Pieces of the Puzzle – Svetlana Romanova Art
She has been drawing since her childhood. First - in the studio for small children, then - in the Art School for youngsters. When she was 14 she went to the Russian Art College of Petersburg where she stayed in the class of painting for 4 years. Then she finished The Academy of Design studying art glass, stained-glass windows and porcelain.
The city she comes from and lives in - Skt. Petersburg – one of the most beautiful and historical cities in Russia, has always inspired and influenced her artwork.
The mixture of Russian and European culture, own life experience, impulses of colors and emotions – are like the pieces of the puzzle that shape her images and form the end-product: the stained-glass windows.
‘Today, in times of technical progress, mass production and new artificial materials I search for inspiration in the very foundations of the Art — e.g. old Russian Orthodox icons, Renaissance or folklore. I am looking for the new shapes and images within my themes using different materials. But my favorite is glass because of its plasticity and ability to transform and to be transformed. In the process of creation I look for the metaphoric image to describe my idea.’
Stained-glass window images possess truly magic attributes; the luminescence of color glass fills the space with light and patches of light, which makes it so special.
I use lenses and cut glass and in my opinion only the stained-glass window possess the special decorative properties and originality. I like to work with greater formats, both in painting, and in glass – this is my ‘love scope’. I never really did any miniature glass, but I draw with pleasure miniatures of porcelain.
Painter or stained-glass windows-artist?
The painter is my first formation … the second is the glass-artist.
Painting gives certain freedom to the artist. The creation of stained-glass window is often connected with certain interior and should be coordinated with other decorative elements in same style and should have enough illumination. To switch between various materials is stimulating; one material gives the ideas for another.
Inspiration?
Nature, sometimes fiction, litterature and the supernatural. Skt. Petersburg inspires in a very special way because of its white nights. I love making travels - they often give new ideas and impressions.
Technique?
I have not invented my own technique. And my hand reaches for a brush or searches for other tools when there is a concrete idea which should be realized in the given material. The image thought up for a stained-glass window, in painting would never look as sharply and intensively, in my opinion. The painters who do not know about it often do not understand this difference. It seems to them, that any picture can be transformed into a stained-glass window … but glass has its laws.
What is Glamour in Art?
I have not found such definition in the history of arts. There is a concept of the ”style” and there is a concept of the «kitsch». I see the trend of mixing the Italian furniture with other European accessories which seldom make an original composition. Just like a in a dessert, different ingredients have the right to ‘co-existence’, but there is always a danger to run into the overdoses of sugar and bad taste in case of its excessive consumption.
Glamour in art is for me when the piece of art has its history, admirers and buyers.
Artist in Russia?
It is difficult to be an artist in Russia. There is no art market, there is not enough art dealers. Therefore the artist himself must be engaged in advertising of own works and exhibitions. During Soviet times there was a system of the state orders, now the state does not support beginning artists. Clearly, the two cities where there are the best opportunities to work and sell own art are Moscow and Skt.-Petersburg. Personally I make customized orders for interiors in Moscow and Skt. Petersburg, sometimes I arrange exhibitions of my art.
Plans for the future?

Svetlana Romanova-Art
Svetlana Romanova has been drawing since her childhood. First – in the studio for small children, then – in the Art School for youngsters. When she was 14 she went to the Russian Art College of Petersburg where she stayed in the class of painting for 4 years. Then she finished The Academy of Design studying art glass, stained-glass windows and porcelain.
The city she comes from and lives in – St.
In the process of creation I look for the metaphoric image to describe my idea
Why glass?
I love making travels – they often give new ideas and impressions.
