RENATA EGREJA
São Paulo, Brazil, 1984. Lives and works in Ipaussú, Brazil.
resume
Painting as an allegory of life. For São Paulo artist Renata Egreja, painting is a celebration, a celebration of life, and the guiding thread of her thinking. At 38 years old and with 14 years of experience under her belt, Renata divided her training between São Paulo and Paris. Today, she lives and works in the São Paulo countryside, with a studio on a farm in the small town of Ipaussú. Coming from a farming family, she grew up in a rural environment and has always been inspired by nature. Passionate about painting since childhood, her first professional foray into the arts was working on allegories at samba schools in Rio (Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel) and São Paulo (Nenê de Vila Matilde). From this celebration of her origins, she draws much of the visual effects, sparkle, radiance, and joy of her art. She began her studies in Fine Arts at FAAP-SP, then graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, where she also obtained her master's degree, and began her career in the art world. In Brazil, she has participated in several solo and group exhibitions at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, Paço das Artes, Zipper Galeria, Galeria Lume, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Sorocaba, Museu de Arte de Curitiba, and Sesc, among others. Abroad, her works have been exhibited in Milan (Italy), Frankfurt (Germany), and New Delhi (India). Her works, present in public and private collections, display an explosion of color and energy across various media: canvases, watercolors on paper, oil painting, acrylics, couture, ceramics, sculpture, videos, drawings, and installations. Their common point: a palette of vibrant colors and always warm dreams. Her creations have been recognized with awards such as the Jovens Talentos Prize from Paris-Dauphine University in 2010, the Itamaraty Contemporary Art Prize in 2012, and the Itamaraty Sanskriti Foundation in 2013. Her brushstrokes have also become fashion pieces and wearable objects. The artist notably designed a collection for the Italian brand Salvatore Ferragamo. In recent years, as the mother of two daughters, Bia and Paloma, Renata has also dedicated herself to gender issues and the fight for women's rights. Proof that celebration and struggle always go hand in hand.
