When I created this work, the window was -30 °C (-22 °F). I remember this because when I drew frosty patterns, I opened part of the window, leaving the frame with only one glass. When I created this work, the window was -30 °C (-22 °F). I remember this because when I drew frosty patterns, I opened part of the window, leaving the frame with only one glass. I boiled a kettle near the window and waited for the steam to freeze. The patterns turned out so-so, but the streaks on the candles came out textured.
It was cold in the room terribly, loved ones were swearing. And even though I drew in a down jacket, I still caught a cold.

And a miracle happened When my husband managed to get white chrysanthemums in such a cold. I had to drive from far away. I remember with what trepidation we removed layer after layer of packaging. Only one flower was slightly damaged…

The strokes were woven into patterns giving birth to a winter fairy tale…

All works are decorated in a wooden baguette and carefully packed for transportation. After receiving the work, it is necessary to protect it with glass. To preserve the perception, we recommend using museum anti-reflective glass. Use FrameTek products (econospace) or similar to create an air layer between the surface of the pattern and glass.

I mainly draw in the style of hyperrealism which for the most part determined my choice of materials and techniques: my works are made in pencil or with colored pastels. Black and white graphics and soft pastels on velvet paper let me work with details on a very deep level, convey nuance of meanings through tilt of lines and plains, complex play of light and shade on a canvas.

The pencil allows me to achieve photographic, hyperrealistic accuracy in depicting objects. It makes it possible to picture reality beyond itself, articulate feelings there are no words for, go beyond the time and space. This way shifts of dimensions and focuses can be made very subtle, hardly meeting the eye. Notions, feelings, composition are where it the drawing really starts. The plot of the picture is a very complicated puzzle: objects, textures, light sources, states of nature – all this pieces do not readily cooperate with each other. After some time, however, they gradually form into fascinating rhythm for me, into clear structure which existence in reality cannot be doubted. Every work in this technique is thousands strokes made with purpose. As a result, I create black and white drawing resembling large scale photo. Beauty and harmony in it are the starting point where the immersion into deeper emotional level and going beyond the reality looking for new meanings begins.

To balance out the monochrome which takes important place in my art I recourse to rich color of dry pastel on velvet paper. Pastel and velvet are the mediums possessing maximum tactility which allows enhance the realism of depicted objects and textures, makes them tangible. Creating the plots for my works I draw inspiration from Dutch masters. I especially attracted to their compositions, flowers and fabrics. I like to give them modern look. I prefer to work with black velvet using it as a background. Volume of space I construct only with light and shade on the objects. The texture of velvet actively absorbs light and creates additional deepness to the picture and its combination with rich pigments of pastels makes drawing literally glow from the inside.
