Sergei Andreev werd geboren op 16 januari 1970 in Orenburg, de hoofdstad van de gelijknamige provincie aan de Oeralrivier, op de grens tussen Europa en Azië.
In 1985 verliet hij de middelbare school. Reeds tijdens zijn schooljaren ontdekte hij zijn schildertalent, maar desondanks koos hij voor een opleiding in de sport. Zo werd hij Orenburgs langlauf-kampioen.
Omdat zijn (creatieve) bloed kroop waar het niet gaan kan, ontwierp hij tijdens zijn studies LO als illustrator op vrijwillige basis affiches voor diverse culturele evenementen.
In 1988 sloot hij zijn opleiding als sportleraar met succes af. Vervolgens werd hij opgeroepen om in het leger zijn land te dienen, maar na amper 6 maanden werd hij om medische redenen uit het leger ontslagen.
In de jaren ’90 gaf hij als leraar lichamelijke opvoeding les aan mentaal gehandicapte kinderen.
In 1994 begon hij opnieuw te schilderen en in 1997 nam hij als jong kunstenaar deel aan een groepstentoonstelling met als thema ‘Erotisch Christelijk Surrealisme’. Russische kunstcritici omschreven zijn schilderstijl toendertijd als ‘nieuwe primitieve kitsch’.
In 1999 volgt er een expo in het Historisch Museum van zijn geboorteplaats Orenburg. De tentoonstelling werd door de politie opgedoekt omwille van de controversiële thematiek rond politiek en erotiek. In datzelfde jaar volgt er nog een individuele expositie in het gemeentehuis van Orenburg en ook hier werden de schilderijen gecensureerd: bepaalde delen werden voor het publiek afgedekt.
Ondanks dit alles verkrijgt Sergei Andreev zijn lidkaart van de Russische schildersvereniging, een onontbeerlijk document om als erkend artiest te mogen werken.
In 2000 komt hij naar België en 2005 is zijn afstudeerjaar in de richting ‘Ontwerp en illustratief tekenen’ van het CVO Gent. Aan de Gentse Academie voor Beeldende Kunst beëindigt hij in 2007 zijn opleiding aan de afdeling ‘Experimentele Schilderkunst’. Uiteindelijk behaalt hij in 2014 nog zijn vakdiploma als ‘Restaurateur van Schilderijen’ op de campus van Syntra-West in Brugge.
