Artiste international, peintre, plasticien, sculpteur, luthier et musicien violoncelliste, né en 1962 à Caen, Sylvain Thieurmel est à la maturité de son Art, ou plutôt devrait-on dire de "ses" Arts, tant l' expression de son talent s' exprime dans de nombreux domaines de la création artistique. Il entre à 16 ans à l' école nationale des Beaux-Arts de Caen, y travaille la peinture , la sculpture et la gravure. En parallèle, il se consacrera à l' apprentissage de la lutherie et de la restauration et deviendra à 25 ans luthier expert de l' Opéra Royal de Stockholm et à 33 ans du Grand Théâtre du Liceu à Barcelone.
Reconnu très jeune, il sera soutenu en 1985 par Jack Lang, Ministre de la culture, pour déposer à l' INPI un brevet d' invention d' un nouveau système sonore, pour développer ses créations de décorations instrumentales, et sera alors sélectionné pour le dernier salon des artistes décorateurs SAD 1990 au Grand palais, avenue des Champs-Elysées à Paris, il présentera son "hommage à Antonio Stradivarius" : Thieurmel fera de la petite mentonnière du violon une table gigantesque, de son petit cordier le dos d' un trône, de l' archet une lampe qui tend la lumière..."la caisse du violon devient sa maison, j' habite sa maison" Thieurmel devient un luthier fou d' espace et de matière à tailler, à peindre, le violoncelle et la femme ne font qu' un...qu' une...oeuvre d' art: femme et femmes qu'il peindra sans arrêt en bodypaint et sur ses toiles.
Il ira étudier la gemmologie à Madagascar pour mieux comprendre le vitrail et en intégrer ses effets de lumière et de transparence dans sa peinture.
Post-moderne et surréaliste, le pinceau de Sylvain Thieurmel, son trait, sa matière, sa couleur font vibrer ses toiles du moderato au forte comme l' archet sur son violoncelle. Thieurmel est un alchimiste de l' art.
