Afgestudeerd als grafisch ontwerper aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem (ArteZ, NL. 1993); nog altijd zit fotografie me in het bloed. De passie voor fotografie begon lang geleden toen ik als klein meisje in de doka van mijn vader voor het eerst een foto zag opkomen in de ontwikkelaar. Een magisch moment! Die magie is nooit meer verdwenen, ook niet met de intrede van de pixel. Digitale fotografie opende vele mogelijkheden, in combinatie met het grafische vak, maar ook het digitaal bewerken van beelden tot abstractie.
Na jaren van pixels, beeldscherm en digitaliteit kwam het verlangen naar het oude ambacht terug. Heimwee naar de magie, fotograferen op film. Met zoektochten naar de oude technieken en nieuwe ontwikkelingen. Terug naar de analoge fotografie, of zoals het zo mooi in het frans heet: photographie argentique.
Films ontwikkel ik, ecologisch verantwoord, in caffenol, een zelf-'gebrouwen' ontwikkelaar op basis koffie.
In de donkere kamer druk ik de foto's op de traditionele - analoge- manier af. Dat levert foto's op die met tijd, zorg en aandacht gemaakt zijn en dus stuk voor stuk uniek zijn. Zolang de voorraad strekt op oud fotopapier, wat tot bijzondere en soms onverwachte resultaten leidt. Maar ook digitale verwerking is een goede optie. Negatieven digitaliseren en verdere verwerking in de computer geeft alle mogelijkheden van moderne fotobewerking. Dat vergroot het palet alleen maar.
