Kayen

Né en 1963, d'origine guyanaise, d'où son pseudo, Kayen dessine depuis l'enfance. En 1981 il obtient son diplôme de l'école Estienne puis part en Guyane ou il continue de peindre. De retour en France il fonde avec un ami un fanzine (Zapateado) ou la linogravure prend une place importante, puis participe en 1987 à un échange avec des artistes bulgares. Il peint alors de très grands formats (3 x 10m). Certains de ses travaux sont vendus à Drouot. Il gagne parallèlement sa vie en travaillant en agences. En 1991 il fonde la revue « Drunk » pour laquelle il réalise des illustrations et la mise en page. En 1993 il intègre le quotidien Libération en tant que directeur artistique adjoint, puis en 1997 retourne en Guyane. Il continue de peindre et réalise des fresques avec des élèves de collège à Saint-Laurent du Maroni.
Il participe en 1999 au tournage du film« le peuple migrateur» de Jacques Perrin en tant que régisseur. En 2002 il part pour Tahiti, c’est là que l’océanie commence à influencer ses travaux. L’aspect « ethnique » prend le pas sur ses travaux figuratifs. En 2008, il obtient son CAP d’ébéniste puis part en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Il y réalise une ou deux expos « sauvages ». Aujourd’hui, membre du groupe de rock « Ukan » il continue de peindre et dessiner.


Born in 1963, of Guyanese origin, from where are pseudo, Kayen draws since childhood. In 1981 he graduated from the Estienne school and then moved to Guyana where he continued to paint. Back in France he founded with a friend a fanzine (Zapateado) where linogravure took an important place and then participated in 1987 in an exchange with Bulgarian artists. He then painted very large sizes (3mx10m). Some of his works were sold to Drouot. He also earns his living by working in agencies. In 1991 he founded the magazine “Drunk” for which he made illustrations and layout. In 1993 he joined the newspaper Libération as deputy artistic director, then in 1997 returned to Guyana. He continues to paint and make frescoes with college students in Saint-Laurent du Maroni. In 1999, he took part in the filming of Jacques Perrin’s film “Le peuple migrateur” as stage manager. In 2002 he left for Tahiti, where oceania began to influence his work. The “ethnic” aspect takes precedence over his figurative works. In 2008, he obtained his Cabinetmaker’s CAP and then moved to New Caledonia. There he made one or two “wild” exhibitions. Today, member of the rock band “Ukan” he continues to paint and draw.
