This is an author's work at the intersection of contemporary art and clinical psychiatry, representing the dual nature of anorexia and bulimia. This painting is not just an image, but a weighted psychological statement about inner bifurcation, cultural attitudes and a deeply painful search for control over the body.
At the centre of the composition are two female figures embodying the two antagonistic poles of eating disorders:
* On the left is the figure of bulimia: the body is assembled from images of food, like a constructor of compulsive hunger. The head is a croissant, the stomach is a mouth, the legs are desserts, and tentacles sprout from the body, symbolising the anxiety, obsession and cyclical nature of overeating. It is a metaphor for the "food cult," a condition in which food becomes the only object of focus and release.
* On the right is anorexia: an elongated, pointed body, like a blade of self-denial. The coil of distorted centimetre tape on her shoulders suggests a painful dependence of self-esteem on weight. Femininity is gone, leaving only angles, absence, denial.
In between are drops, pills and pellets that hint at purgative behaviour: artificial vomiting, taking laxatives and diuretics. Underfoot is an unstable scale where one figure weighs 120kg, the other 35kg: a symbol of distorted body perception, a key symptom of RPP.
This illustration visualises two forms of eating disorders:
* Anorexia - conscious restriction of food, fear of gaining weight, desire for an "invisible body".
* Bulimia - overeating and the subsequent "punishments": purging, shame, exhaustion.
The work helps to raise awareness of RPP, breaks taboos and stereotypes by emphasising the non-psychological and physical consequences of these conditions. It can be used as a visual tool for psycho-education, in educational, clinical and art therapy settings.
