Xidong Luo is een autodidactische kunstfotograaf gevestigd in Zuid-China. Ze is gespecialiseerd in het gebruik van spiegels, bloemen en andere natuurlijke elementen om de gratie van de leeftijd te eren, om de vluchtige vrouwelijke schoonheid en de ingebouwde vrouwelijke pijn, de diepe verbinding tussen vrouw en natuur, Yin en Yang, leven en dood, tot uitdrukking te brengen.
Haar creaties zijn diepgeworteld in en beïnvloed door de traditionele Chinese filosofie van het taoïsme, die stelt dat “hemel en aarde samen met mij bestaan, en alle dingen en ik één zijn”.
De inspiratie voor het gebruik van spiegels kwam van een Chinees idioom “镜花水月”. Het betekent letterlijk "bloemen in de spiegel en de maan weerspiegeld in het water", wat een metafoor is voor de ONZEKERHEID, ONBEREIKBAARHEID en NIETS van het leven zelf. Terwijl het visueel, naast het toevoegen van meer dimensies en emotionele gewichten aan de creatie, leidt tot een desoriëntatie in tijd en ruimte, af en toe, hier en daar, licht surrealistisch.
Als amateurdanseres maakt ze er gebruik van om zichzelf te gebruiken als expressiemiddel om haar kunstprojecten te realiseren sinds de COVID-19-lockdown. Toch gaat het niet alleen om de schoonheid van een lichaamsvorm, het gaat meer om haar diepgaande begrip en koestering van het leven door de vluchtige aard ervan met verdriet te accepteren.
