Ying Zhang is een kunstenaar uit China, die momenteel in Beijing woont. Ze studeerde af aan de Academy of Fine Arts met een bachelordiploma in modeontwerp. Haar artistieke praktijk richt zich voornamelijk op olieverfschilderijen en mixed media-werken.
Zhang haalt eindeloze inspiratie uit dieren, die de hoofdonderwerpen van haar schilderijen zijn. Ze heeft altijd huisdieren gehad en woont momenteel met twee katten en een eend. Door haar dieren dagelijks te observeren, gelooft ze in een verborgen, magische wereld in hen, een concept dat ze in haar kunst wil vastleggen. Ze maakt haar schilderijen door afbeeldingen van dieren te verzamelen, waaronder foto's van haar eigen huisdieren en andere kleine wezens die ze tegenkomt, en breidt deze associaties vervolgens uit in haar werk.
Haar schilderijen staan bekend om hun helderheid, levendigheid en vaak grillige aard, met antropomorfe elementen die de schattige en charmante eigenschappen van dieren naar voren brengen.
