Matthieu Marcé, geboren in 1981 in Orléans, was al vroeg geïnteresseerd in fotografie en beeld. Maar pas op de middelbare school ervoer hij echt het plezier van portret- en landschapsfotografie. Zijn entourage en zijn eerste reizen zullen hem in staat stellen zijn fascinatie voor schaduw en licht te verkennen, de kracht van landschappen met soms donkere en koude sferen, vaak ontdaan van menselijke aanwezigheid. De praktijk van naaktfotografie komt een paar jaar later, voortkomend uit een project om het genre terug te brengen naar het intieme, het privé.
Pas in 2020 besloot Matthieu Marcé zich los te maken van het fotografische medium om nieuwe mogelijkheden te verkennen, waarbij hij zijn vaardigheden in computerprogrammering combineerde met zijn zoektocht naar esthetiek en betekenis. Digitale kunst stelt hem in staat zijn vragen te conceptualiseren die verband houden met het verstrijken van de tijd, met herinnering en vergetelheid, met de sporen die men achter en na zichzelf kan achterlaten. Al snel neemt in dit onderzoek het toeval een belangrijke plaats in, als een vorm van loslaten, van het onverwachte om tot het unieke van het gemaakte werk te komen. Zijn werken zijn eclectisch: figuratief, abstract, gebaseerd op fotografische inhoud of zelfs op gegevens die op internet zijn verzameld.
