Robert Indiana (1928 - 2018)

De Amerikaanse kunstenaar Robert Indiana maakte deel uit van de pop-artbeweging. In de vorm van een kaart die hij bezorgde aan verschillende vrienden en kennissen in de kunstwereld, ontwikkelde hij aanvankelijk in 1964 zijn iconische beeld LOVE. Robert Indiana werd gevraagd een kunstwerk te maken voor de jaarlijkse kerstkaart van het Museum of Modern Art in 1965. Gebaseerd op op zijn LOVE-foto diende Indiana drie vierkante olieverf op canvas-varianten van 30 cm in. Rood, blauw en groen werden door het museum gekozen als de meest krachtige kleurencombinaties. Het steeg snel naar de top van de meest populaire kaarten die het museum ooit heeft gehad verkocht. In 1966 werkte Indiana samen met Marian Goodman van Multiples, Inc. om zijn eerste LOVE-sculptuur in aluminium te maken, terwijl hij doorging met het bouwen van zijn LOVE-serie. Indiana voltooide zijn eerste enorme LOVE-sculptuur in Cor-Ten-staal in 1970.

George Segal (1924 - 2000)
