Wat is de oorsprong van de Houtskool techniek?

Houtskool is een materiaal dat wordt geleverd in de vorm van stokken (dicht bij houtskool), meestal afkomstig van een wilgentak of houtskool (gelijknamige struik) die in een vacuüm verkoold is. Dit materiaal wordt voornamelijk gebruikt om te tekenen. Het maakt het mogelijk om zeer diep zwart te verkrijgen, precieze lijnen, fijn of juist heel breed, afhankelijk van hoe het wordt gebruikt. Het kan zonder problemen worden gewist, waardoor het een techniek bij uitstek is voor het maken van voorbereidend werk of schetsen, maar maakt het behoud ervan delicaat zonder het gebruik van fixeermiddel (vernis of lak).
