'Man in a box' is a reworking of a painting that I did as a young man. The piece handles the repetition of a daily daily routine. A force that can easily wash over us all, but has it's own unusual gravity.
The viewer takes a nosey at a deeply private moment in a man's life. He is lost in his thoughts, apparently not enganging in his environment. A cold light spills into the room from the winter suburban landscape outside. A television blares behind him. The singer captured on the screen seemingly singing a soundtrack to the man's life.

Rory Mitchell is een hedendaagse Noorse schilder. Hoewel zijn werkproces sterk leunt op een gedegen tekenkunst, is dit door de jaren heen verwerkt in een aantal kunstdisciplines, met name olieverf en gouache. Zijn bedoeling is dat de vervormde lijnen en emotionele kleuren zich lenen voor de verhalen die hij creëert.

Tegenwoordig werkt Mitchell voornamelijk met olieverf op doek en maakt hij figuratieve schilderijen met rijke kleurenpaletten en expressionistische ondertonen.

Rory Mitchell werd geboren in 1977 in Schotland, waar hij afstudeerde aan het Edinburgh College of Art.
