NICOLA MOREA
American Graffiti
Italian artist Nicola Morea brings his thought provoking artwork to Naples, with an opening at the Vanderbilt Gallery, 1300 Third Street S., (239-659-2600). The show will begin Wednesday, February 22, 2006, followed by a “Meet the Artist Reception” on Thursday, February 23, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. With more than 50 shows to his credit, this international artist has spent 30 years painting expressionistic works that are held in both private and public collections. Nicola Morea uses his unique style of painting with enamel on canvas to emotionally express the environments observed while visiting New York and Florida last year, after concluding his art show at the Agora Gallery in the Chelsea area of New York. Upon returning to Italy, he was moved to create the paintings that he now brings to Naples. Because he doesn’t use brushes, Morea's canvases exude a thoughtful, controlled layering of color that comes from painting with a hard object. His passion for form, art and environment is strongly represented in his powerful yet sensitive interpretations of the scene at New York’s ground zero. He artfully puts these impressions of the brutality of the 9/11 attack on canvas with his paintings, “We Will Never Forget”, “Ground Zero”, and “The 1161 Unknown Heroes”, ”The Last Steel Beam”, ”Ground Zero Lights”, et al. Nicola also puts forth a study of the impressions he gleaned of our American society during last year’s visit. With the stimulating use of color and elements in his collages, “Click Here”, “Junk Food”, ”Free”, we compare Nicola’s expressionistic renditions of “Naples”, “Naples Sea Reflections”, and “Naples Graffiti” with “Miami Shadow”, and “Ft Lauderdale” and discover Nicola has interpreted the essence of these impressions in a provocative and stimulating way.
